Finding My Magnum Opus
I want to see more stories written by black authors that aren’t just The Slave Story™ or stories about how white people hate us. These stories are important and shouldn’t go anywhere, but I want more fictional stories about magic and science, aliens and dragons!
My very first thought was that I wanted MeteoWrites to be a publishing company, to gather writers of color from all over the galaxy. Not to say others should be removed or replaced from the shelves, it’s just that I don’t see enough representation for authors of color. Now, maybe my problem is that I’m not looking in the right places.
The next phase was that MeteoWrites could work as a literary magazine, a hub for amateur writers like myself to submit their work to a broader audience. Only problem is, MeteoWrites doesn’t have an audience yet. I thought it would be so fun to host writers’ competitions and challenges and the like.
The most recent phase was that I would simply showcase my best work. So far, I’ve got some great stuff available, if I do say so myself; shorts, micro shorts, a novella, a working novel, an audio drama. Of course it doesn’t stop there! MeteoWrites has a short film on the way, more audio dramas, and obviously more prose. Maybe I’ll find my magnum opus in one of those.
In all honesty, I don’t know what MeteoWrites will become. I’ve thought about giving up countless times over the years, but something keeps drawing me back like a gravitational pull. My dream is to be not just a writer, but a full-time creator of stories, movies, video games, music videos— the sky’s the limit!
*Fun Fact: Meteors do have a gravitational pull.
